Update Your Older Home Quickly With These Projects

Styles change with homes from the roof to the floor and everything in between. A home can become ‘old’ quickly, but when you have the friendliest neighbors, an ideal location, and great space, buying a new home may not be the best decision. Instead, updating an older home with some quick projects can make it new again while adding value to the home.

Update Your Floors

The great thing about flooring is it can change from room to room. Some may prefer wood throughout, while others enjoy carpet in the bedrooms. The possibilities are endless, which makes this a fun update.

First, there are new products out there that you may never heard about. Check out your local flooring stores and you will see new textures, waterproof materials beyond just tile, and yes, even recycled materials!

Wood flooring, stained concrete, and tile are still on trend for preferred hard surfaces. The tile options can even look like wood! The colors that are popular for updating are gray and blonde. And if you want to update the old carpet, people are opting for shorter and more condensed.

Update Your Lighting

Of course, lighting can be just as varied as the flooring from room to room. Often, homes are purchased with fixtures installed by the builder. Now is the time to shop for those original pieces that can stand out as much as a piece of art. These can truly be the focus of a room.

For years, we have been enjoying the brighter bulbs with energy efficiency. These bulbs are lighting up our kitchens, bathrooms, etc. with more of a daylight hue. Other rooms may be best suited with subtle lighting, however.

The updating goal with lighting is to go with as many different styles as you can. While brass and soft gold are popular currently, it will be less costly to use those finishes for a few lights instead of the whole home, making updating easier next time. To help with the originality in each room, mid modern and art deco are making a comeback. Add to that, the ‘sculptural’ fixtures, lighting choices are many.

Update Your Hardware and Appliances

Another idea for updating the look of a home is the hardware on cabinets, drawers, and doors. Vents and electrical plates can also be swapped out, giving the home a fresh look. And the kitchen is the smartest investment with updating. Kitchens still continue to be the biggest sellers of a home. The new finishes of appliances are appealing. Gone is the daily cleaning of fingerprints on the refrigerator. Matte and textured surfaces are making these new models stress-free.

With these updates, you don’t have to move, you can keep the home you love! Call us at (732) 313-2838 or reserve your dumpster online and we will help you with a bin to get rid of the old so you can start enjoying the new!
